Virgin Voyages Questions, answered
Sailing Virgin with a group?
The questions our Sailors ask most, from which fare to pick when friends are involved to the new My Next Virgin Voyage rules. Last reviewed October 26, 2026. Virgin changes its policies often, so your advisor confirms the details for your booking.
Sailing Virgin
Is Virgin Voyages really adults only?
Yes. Every Sailor has to be 18 or older, which is a big part of why groups and solo travelers pick it.
What’s covered in the fare, and what isn’t?
Every restaurant onboard is covered, along with essential drinks like water and drip coffee, group fitness classes, the shows and WiFi (the WiFi level depends on your fare). Alcohol and premium drinks, the spa, Shore Things excursions and flights cost extra. Gratuities are extra too on US bookings made or changed from October 7, 2025, unless your offer includes them.
Is there a drinks package?
No traditional package. Virgin sells Bar Tab instead: credit you buy before you sail, for premium drinks onboard, with bonus credit added by Virgin. You can buy it in the app or your account until 24 hours before sailing. Whatever you don’t spend isn’t refunded, so don’t overbuy.
Booking with a group
Which fare should I pick if I’m sailing with friends?
Think about how likely your plans are to change. Base is the cheapest but it’s non-refundable, and you can’t change names, cabin or dates. Essential lets you change your cabin or voyage date, or cancel for a Future Voyage Credit. Premium adds perks like a longer dining booking window, better WiFi and a daily drinks credit. Group plans shift, so many of our Sailors skip Base.
How much do I pay up front?
A deposit of 20% of the voyage fare (taxes and fees not included) when you book, and the rest 120 days before you sail. Booking inside 120 days means paying in full right away.
Can our group do excursions together?
Yes. Shore Things open for booking 120 days before the voyage (135 days in RockStar Quarters) and you pay when you book. Most can be canceled or moved up to 48 hours before, unless the description says otherwise. Agree on the plan in your sailing’s group chat before booking opens, because popular ones fill up.
Can Virgin book our flights and hotel?
Virgin told travel advisors that its air and hotel program is now Fly & Stay by Internova, starting October 26, 2026, and that you book it by calling Virgin’s Sailor Services. Compare it against booking your own flights and a pre-cruise hotel, especially if your group is flying in from different cities.
My Next Virgin Voyage
What is My Next Virgin Voyage?
An offer you can only buy onboard. You put down a $150 deposit for a placeholder, and when you book your next Virgin sailing you get money off the fare plus onboard credit. The amount depends on how long your next sailing is, and it’s only valid on sailings of 4 nights or longer.
What changed on October 27, 2026?
Virgin told travel advisors on October 26 that My Next Virgin Voyage now works on any open voyage, including ones Virgin hasn’t announced yet. You still have two years from the day you buy it to choose your sailing, but the sailing itself can be later than that. Virgin says it applies to every placeholder, old and new. Its public FAQ may show the older wording for a while.
Can I give my placeholder to a friend?
No. It stays with the Sailor who bought it, and names can’t be changed on the placeholder.
Can I use it on a group sailing?
Sometimes. Virgin doesn’t let it combine with some rates, including contracted group rates. Tell your advisor you’re holding one when you request a sailing, and they’ll check what works best before you book.
Nautir Getaways
Who actually books my cruise?
When you send a request, it goes to Travel by Trinidad LLC or Off The Grid Getaways, whichever advisor picks it up first. That advisor is the seller of travel and your agent of record. Sending a request doesn’t charge anything.
I’m sailing alone. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Plenty of our Sailors go solo and meet the group in the Nautir app before they board. See our solo sailings page for Virgin sailings with a reduced single supplement.
How do I find the Facebook group for my sailing?
Use our Virgin Voyages Facebook group finder. Search your ship and date and it links you to the group.
Keep going: solo sailings, find your sailing’s Facebook group, or see our hosted group sailings. Official terms live on Virgin’s FAQ.
